Learn to sail with Allsail on beautiful uncrowded Pittwater.
Allsail is a Yachting Australia training centre offering YA certificate courses in a practical manner.
No boring classrooms at Allsail - training is done on the yachts.
All our instructors are Yachting Australia and NSW Maritime approved. Our offshore instructors are yachtmasters and coastal skippers, as are many of our inshore instructors.
Learning is fun!!! Well not always, unless you're at Allsail. We understand that everybody learns at a different pace. Got a problem understanding a class or whatever? Relax it's not your fault. Ask for a complimentary class. No problem. But please remember, we will only give free repeats if you have been coming to class.
Joining Club Allsail is the perfect way to get that most important practise needed to make full use of your new skills.
Introductory (Beginners) Course
This one is for absolute novice would be sailors. We'll introduce you to one of the great team sports and let you see how easy it really is. It's an entirely practical course where you learn the basics of rigging, safety, the wind, sail handling, helming and more. We aim to give you a broad understanding of the basic principles.
Club Crew Course
This course builds on the Introductory course and covers more advanced sail handling, personal safety, some helmsmanship, reefing, selecting and changing headsails, working, reaching, running, engines and mooring. The course objective is to remember the earlier topics and understand the more advanced topics. You can join Club Allsail prior to completing this course and sail our yachts and get practice and experience as you go.
Competent Crew Course
Many organisations refer to ‘competent crew’, offering a shorter series of courses than is required for a full Yachting Australia Certificate. We offer a similar shorter variation as our Club Crew above. The full Competent Crew Course includes a weekend overnight on our Beneteau 39 or Lotus 35 and involves a night sail and some offshore sea miles not covered in the shorter course.
Some of you may have have completed a Club Crew course or similar.
In this case, you have already covered the theory part of Competent Crew while sailing. We will organise your course to ‘fast track’ you to the missing parts, the offshore, night sailing and sea miles. The cost will be appropriately reduced.
Inshore Skipper Course
In Australian terms, an inshore skipper, refers to those who wish to sail up to 15 nautical miles offshore.
If you intend to skipper or crew offshore, charter in Queensland or overseas - or simply want to sail with family and friends aboard your own yacht, this course provides you with all that you’re likely to need for a safe and enjoyable voyage. You will need to have first completed a Competent Crew course and have logged or plan to complete 500 nautical miles. This course is packed with information and is very helpful for those that wish to charter a bareboat.
Spinnaker & Racing Course
One of the most important sails in anyone's armoury, it requires skill and training to raise, set, drop and helm under spinnaker. This course covers the theory and a great deal of practice on our J24s and our bigger boats.
Downwind there is no better way to travel with power and pace.To be competitive in a race environment constant slight adjustments become the norm. Skipper and crew must learn to work as a team to gain the advantage that can be the difference between winning and being 'a support player'.
Navigation
Once you start heading off shore, it's vital that you understand navigation. Needless to say, there's nothing worse, nor more dangerous, than being stuck in the Pacific without a clue where you are. You are introduced to navigation in the Competent Crew Course and it is taken further both theoretically and practically on the Inshore Certificate. You'll learn how to read charts, take bearings, plot your position and calculate boat speed. This is a totally practical course. You learn as you sail.
Coastal Skipper and Offshore Courses and Mile makers
This is where the real yachties play. Experience the thrill of a coastal or ocean passage, the beauty of ocean sunsets, the satisfaction of a landfall after a long sail. You're in for an experience you will never forget.
Offshore Cruises
These vary from two to nine days. We regularly have weekends afloat, or five-day trips to Port Stephens and the surrounding outer islands, or anywhere else the weather permits. We regularly cruise to and back from Queensland races. We also cruise at overseas destinations such as Turkey, Croatia and Greece. While these trips have no formal instructional goal, it is the adventure and experience of being at sea that helps all those that take part to become better yachts-people.
Gear you need
You need sunglasses - ones that won't fall off - sunblock cream, sweater/jacket. Just wear ordinary sports clothes such as jeans or shorts, T-shirt etc. You will need soft soled shoes that won't slip on a wet deck. Tennis shoes are ideal.
The yachts are all equipped with safety gear.
Our office is on the wharf at Church Point. Parking can be difficult just like it is anywhere on the waterfront. Leave plenty of time to park, particularly on Sundays. There is a Council carpark about 100 metres from our office.
If you can't swim or have a medical problem, please tell our office staff every time you come.
Sailing is a team sport and we need the entire team to make it work. Please be sure to arrive when booked.
